Medideste (dubbed ‘Poncho’ by Lizzie)The Plague Doctor PokémonGhost/Normal
Ability: Immunity/Healer (Hidden Ability: Poison Heal)
Common during the Dark Ages, this Pokémon was often found near severely ill patients, using its ghostly body to trap any of the infection from spreading. They were often seen floating down the streets at night, predicting new patients.
This Pokémon was often used by doctors to quarantine an area around a patient before the doctor proceeded to treat the patient. Doctors in the past modeled their protective suits after this Pokémon to symbolize the bond between these Pokémon and their aid.

I got the idea from a gif showing a Sprtizee and a Duskull, and eventually the Sprtizee with the Duskull’s mask. I’m not a huge fan of Sprtizee’s design, but their face is a great model of a Plague Doctor’s mask. I used Gen 6 Sprites of Duskull for the body, Honchkrow for the hat, and a fan made Spritzee for the face/mask to create this sprite (credit goes to Juan-Amador on deviantArt).
I decided to make it a Ghost/Normal type because I thought it would be an interesting type matchup. A simple Foresight would leave it vulnerable to its Fighting weakness, and it’s still weak to Dark moves, and potentially Ghost moves (depending on how Foresight actually works/would work if changed). I originally couldn’t decide between Ghost/Poison, Ghost/Dark, or Ghost/Psychic, but I didn’t want to have a medical Pokémon be Psychic type, and I thought it would be cool for it to have a unique typing (and not be weak to Earthquake).
I thought his abilities were fairly reasonable. Immunity renders it immune to Poison, which I always attributed with sickness, and Healer has a chance to heal an ally in a Double/Triple Battle of their Status Condition. The hidden ability, Poison Heal, further exploits the Poison immunity.
It would have incredibly high HP, and relatively good Defense and Special Defense stats, making it the ultimate stalling wall. It would have terrible Speed and Attack, but a mediocre-to-okay Special Attack, and primarily learn Ghost, Poison, and Psychic moves, but more Status and Passive moves than Attacking. I could see this guy packing a Recover, Toxic, Hex, Confuse Ray/Hypnosis set, or a Calm Mind, Rest, Trick Room, Shadow Ball set.
I haven’t sprited in years, so this was really fun to do and make a what I consider good final product.
